Don't They Know to Run Away

I met a girl the other day.

They sat in the sand and watched me play.

Don’t they know to run away?

“Would you like to play with me?”

The laughed and smiled and said, “OK.”

Why didn’t they know to run away?

I shared my toys, and she sat and stayed.

She said, “I like your hair today.”

She didn’t care to run away.

I got quiet. I got scared. I quietly noted, “Thanks.”

Then I told her what they all tend to say,

How they all end up running away.

She said, “I guess then that is their mistake.

I’ll see you tomorrow sometime to play.”

And she got up then, and ran away.
